The rain had finally stoped but the forest was still dripping with the after effects and so was the women’s hair. Long brown locks hung down over her features and draped her shoulders, dripping water onto her already wet clothing. Siting perched on the branch of a tree the women could hear three figures moving swiftly in her direction, she knew all three of those scents all too well. Two of these things she had been trained to know the scent of, she had been born to kill them, the other, he had been like her, one of the innocent humans plucked off the street in the dead of night and turned, instructed to attack and kill the golden eyed vampires.
Her name was Koby and she wasn’t entirely sure what had brought her back to this place, she swore she would never come back, she had barely escaped being massacred last time she had been near this tiny town. It was the third guy in the group that came closer and closer to her that had brought her back here. He had escaped with her, not that she had planned it that way, she had wanted to escape on her own and watch from a far as the rest of the newborns got themselves killed. Unfortunately she didn’t have a complete hold on her ability back then and she hadn’t been able to project her images into all of their minds.
Some of those she had failed to confuse with her images had realised that this was their escape and had made a break for it. Her orbs were blood red as they looked through the growth of the forest they were hunting and hadn’t picked up her scent yet, to focused on the prey they hunted. Weak and pathetic they were hunting animals when there was a town full of fresh human blood screaming out to them. They were close enough now and Koby made her move without even having to concentrate to hard she pulled a sunny beach on the Florida coast into her mind and without any effort she threw it forth, until she knew it was now all the three could see.
All they would be able to see would be the white sandy beach, the high cliffs and the crashing waves, their ears would be full of the sound of the water, and the seagulls, laughter of the children and the shouting of frustrated parents.
Jumping down from the tree she walked forward easily, before she was standing before a stunned Chris, letting his illusion break only slightly so now she was standing in her own illusion with him, the other two stuck in their own individual illusions, shut off from the others in their hunting party.
“Hello Chris”
She said as she walked around him, even though she could see and hear everything on the beach she knew where she was, where as the others would be stumped, the only way they would realise what was going on would be if they had come across someone with a similar gift before.
“I don’t believe it you escaped being massacred to become one of those we were born to kill, weak and pathetic and living of inferior animals, I never thought I would see this from you. I wonder how welcoming the golden eyes would be if they knew you were one of those who were headed out to wipe them out.”
She spoke her voice was cold, she could have kept going, moved on to another town, another part of the world but she knew he wouldn’t have told them, and she was sour. She had not wanted the others to escape with her, and to know that he had turned his back on them and run to the golden eyes didn’t sit with her. Besides she knew it would make him squirm if she threatened to tell them the whole story, no doubt they would want an explanation as to why they were suddenly on a beach.

Chris felt more comfortable than he had expected he would be as he ran neck and neck with Carlisle and Esme, alongside the tree line of the forest. Soft, moist grass cushioned his boots as he dashed along the overgrown turf.
So they were going to be accepted into the Cullen clan; both he and Dale. He would be able to continue the vegetarian lifestyle he so desired to uphold after all, and he’d still be able to keep Dale safe.
Chris breathed in deep, his long blonde hair sweeping behind him as they ran, chasing after the scent of elk, grazing not but 200 meters from their position. There was little wind, saving the slight breeze pushing the elk herd’s aroma towards the little hunting party. His eyes were hungry, and his throat was tingling with the confident expectation, He had hunted before. Sure it had only been small animals... and rodents, mainly. Chris had hunted only a few time’s whilst on the move with Dale, and even then it had only been small pet’s or equine.
This time, however, he was going to track larger prey. That had been one of his specialities - tracking - when he had lived with Victoria and her slave-army. It had helped Chris learn how to adapt, and survive, so he supposed some good came out of being forced to live there.
With these thoughts in mind, as Chris ran he suddenly felt his vision blur and fuzz in front of his eyes. That wasn’t normal. Vampire eyes were not like human’s eyes; they did not glaze over, or smudge. Nothing could obscure their vision. He could see everything, even the finest details down to the patterns on a tree leaf. Why couldn’t he now?
His surrounding’s suddenly began to change. He could not see the dense crepuscule of the forest anymore. Instead, his eyes perceived sandy white sand. He could hear waves crashing against cliff faces, and instead of the smell of animal blood he could smell nothing but the salt in the air, mixed with the faintest odor of fish.
“What..” His word’s faltered as he looked around, and it was then that he realized he was alone. Where were Carlisle and Esme? What had just happened? What was happening?
Another sudden haze clouding his vision, before, without warning, a young woman drifted into his eyesight. He stared at her as she approached. Golden eyes locked on crimson. There was something about her; something familiar, something that he simply could not place.
“Hello Chris” She spoke, as she began to circle him. She she knew him, but why couldn’t he quite remember her?
Wait, what was she saying? She knew about the massacre. Knew that he’d escaped. But how? Wait, had she been there? Obviously, Chris, pay attention. His upper story rebuked.
“You... you were one of us weren’t you? You were one of the vampire’s recruited into Victoria’s army.” The logic clicked. “How did you...where did you come from?” He could barely hold onto the conversation. The shock of being absorbed into this environment, and then the shock of seeing another vampire that had been recruited, just like him, into Victoria’s army was just causing Chris’s mind-tank to go into overdrive. He could see the tenseness of her posture, and hear the hostility in her tone, yet he was making little move to defend himself yet. All he could think of was how amazing it was that he was not the only one who had escaped from the certain death that Victoria had silently condemned them all with.

Koby smiled at his reaction to being sucked into her illusion, he had no clue what was going on here, which proves that no one in the group had realised she could do anything special. Well Victoria had gotten something right, other then her at least she had picked idiots for the other people to be turned, they couldn’t even tell when there was a vampire amongst them with special powers. Hell they didn’t even realise when that same vampire was the cause to them escaping being massacred, not that she had planned on helping anyone but herself.
So Chris didn’t remember her, she shouldn’t be surprised the idiot probably thought he had broken away from the group on his own. As if, there was no way any of the morons that got away would have done it without her distraction.
“It’s no wonder Victoria turned you, your so slow to pick up on things, I’m surprised you had enough insight to run for it when I distracted the others. You didn’t honestly think that you would have gotten away with just walking away from that group.”
Her voice though bell like, had a hint of ice to it, she continued to circle the blond vampire, who looks wise was older then her. She lifted a hand to brush the damp hair from her eyes, the sun in her illusion was bright in the sky and was doing a great job of drying her hair. She wasn’t sure exactly how this worked as it was just supposed to be an illusion but somehow the weather in her illusions was able to affect the people in them.
“I think it’s time your golden eyed ‘friends’ found out about your past”
She said with a sinister sort of a smile, and then turning away from him she went to walk as if she was moving further down the beach, but within seconds the illusion vanished from her and she stood in the forest again. Turning again she looked at the three all trapped in their own individual illusions of the beach. Leaning against one of the trees easily, a smile on her features she removed the illusion from all three of the golden-eyed vampires standing in front of her.
“So Chris would you like to tell them about your past or should I?”
She asked her voice somewhat bored and she leant against the tree, she didn’t wait for an answer though, what was the fun in letting him tell them for himself. Pushing away from the tree and walked slightly closer to the group of three, newly released from their illusion.
“We were both changed with the soul purpose of killing you and your family, I’m impressed Chris, feeding off animals until your eyes turned gold enough that you could get close enough to kill them from the inside.”
She said adding admiration to her voice, pretending that she was in awe of a plan that was never there in the first place. If she could plant some doubt in their minds about Chris then she would have some entertainment.

Chris still was not 100 percent clear of what was going on here, but he what he was certain of was that none of his surroundings were real, and none of it could hurt him. The vampire that had intruded this illusion, however, could be a different story.
So she knew him from Victoria’s army. He knew that now. But why was she behaving so hostile? She had escaped, just as he had.Wouldn’t that mean that she had obviously wanted to get out of there just as badly as he did? Why was she behaving this way?
He still hadn’t found the will to speak as the illusion began to waver in front of his eyes, flickering like a candle until he then stood in the forest, right where he had stopped, beside Esme and Carlisle, who had only just seemed to find each other and were standing close, their postures in defence mode. Obviously they were familiar with what was happening, or at least had been in a similar situation in the past. Chris had known that certain vampires possessed certain gifts, though h had none of his own. He already knew that Alice had a gift for seeing into the future (why had she not foreseen t his?) and this female newcomer, looking so viperous, standing so close to them, obviously had the ability to alter reality, somehow.
“So Chris would you like to tell them about your past or should I?” She addressed him, leaning against a tree with an air of nonchalance surrounding her. He could hardly stand the tone in her voice. Feeling a low growl build up in his chest, he glared at her, expression filled with confusion, and resentment. Then, she directed her attention to Carlisle and Esme, and Chris’s stomach churned.
“We were both changed with the soul purpose of killing you and your family, I’m impressed Chris, feeding off animals until your eyes turned gold enough that you could get close enough to kill them from the inside.”
Chris gaped at her, and he could see, out of the corner of his eye, both Carlisle and Esme staring at him. “What?” Chris did not even attempt to restrain the shock and animosity in the tone of his voice. There was also shame. He felt ashamed that he had been recruited. “I never wanted to be recruited.” He spat at her. “None of us did. We were forced to fight each other. How dare you accuse me of this.”[/b]
Chris felt his whole body quivering. Quaking with rage, and fear, with shame and bitter resentment. All at this newcomer, and the memories of what he, what all of them, had been forced to do. What he had nearly been forced to do.
“Chris, calm yourself.” Carlisle’s voice was calm. Too calm. And it only served to intimidate Chris further. Yet still, Chris took several deep breaths, his golden orb’s never leaving the dark crimson eyes of the woman who had essentially sabotaged the only chance he had of leading the civil life he had craved.
Why was she here? Was she here to kill them? How had she found him, and how had she recognised him so quickly? There were dozen’s of newborns recruited into Victoria’s army. He had known many of them, but only those he had trained against. Those he had been forced to train against. Wait. She had said she had seen him escape, so why not tell the others? This only backed up his original thought, that she must have escaped at the same time that he had. So why did she still want to attack the Cullen’s? And why involve him!?
Suddenly, like a brick being pitched through a glass window, something else hit Chris. What about Dale?
Dale.
She could come after Dale! If she was that bent on getting him killed, surely she’d go after the human too. Dale would be completely defenceless without him, or the Cullen’s around for that matter. What if they decided not to trust him? What would happen to Dale? Chris couldn’t let this vampire get to him. She’d kill him, without hesitation. No trouble at all.
What if Carlisle didn’t believe him? What would happen with Dale? Chris chanced a bitter glance towards the newcomer. He needed to ask Carlisle what would happen, but he knew that any sort of discussion on that matter would inevitably put the little human into more danger. And that was not something he wanted to risk. But he needed to.
“Carlisle,” Chris turned his head to look directly at the blonde doctor; his golden eyes beseeching. Carlisle did not look at him, instead he was looking at the female vampire in front of him, but Chris knew he could hear him, whether he wanted to or not, he had to listen. “Dale. You can’t...” How was he going to say this? “I swear that I’m not here to harm you, or your family. Whether you believe me or not is your choice... but please, please protect Dale. I can’t do that on my own.”
His golden eyes searched inside of Carlisle’s, looking for some sign, even the tiniest hint that the other vampire had considered his plea. But he received nothing at all.[/size]

Carlisle couldn’t believe that he hadn’t sensed her presence before. Perhaps he had grown so used to not having to feel concern of having nomad vampire’s in the area, that he didn’t realize what had happened at first. There were fewer shape-shifters in the area, and most of them had all accepted the fact that the Cullen’s were not something to fear anymore. They all kept to the treaty.
Everything happened so quickly. One moment, he was running along side both his beautiful wife Esme, and the male newcomer, whom he was absolutely intrigued with, chasing the scent of some nearby elk, and then, all of a sudden, he was standing on a beach - alone.
“Esme!” He cried out, his disconcerted senses breathing in the scent of salt in the air, his golden orb’s taking in the seascape. He received no answer. Nothing but the inarticulate squawk of sea gulls heard his cry. Who was responsible for this defilement? Was Zafrina here? Was this one of her tricks? Surely not. Not after they had worked together so many years ago to defend little Renesmee. Then who was?
As quickly as the illusion came, Carlisle felt his range of vision wavering around him once more, this time to morph back into reality, where he stood beside both Chris and Esme, once more. “Carlisle!” Esme gasped, wrapping her arms tightly around his torso. Carlisle, in an almost unconscious gesture, wrapped one of his own arms around Esme’s shoulders, allowing her to lean her head against the side of his chest. His attention was on another newcomer, now. A woman was crimson eyes. A woman who was staring at Chris with pure spite in her eyes.
The woman, who he realized couldn’t have been very old at all - still in her late teens perhaps - was leaning against a tree with an unusual casualness to her. He listened carefully as she spoke to them, taking in everything she was saying with trepidation, and mistrust. Before he could respond, however, Chris began to fume.
“Chris, calm yourself.” Carlisle tried to make his voice sound placid, though he dared not take his eyes off of the female newcomer. He could sense Chris’ anxiety. It was practically bouncing off of him. But despite Carlisle’s request, Chris spoke again, this time addressing him.
About Dale. Carlisle’s shoulder’s tensed, only slightly. Was the boy so foolhardy to dare mention Dale whilst they were in this situation? Surely Chris should have known that despite his intentions, whatever they were, that all of the Cullen’s would be more than willing to make sure that Dale was well guarded. Now the female knew that they had something that they didn’t want her to find.
He wasn’t going to talk about it. Not yet. Carlisle had been thinking the exact same as Chris once the female had finished talking, though he was, perhaps a little more prepared. “Excuse me, my dear,” He began, keeping in mind to make sure his voice sounded civil. “my name is Carlisle,” He caught an incredulous glance from Chris, but he ignored the glimpse and continued. “Standing beside me, is my wife Esme, and of course, it seems that you already know Chris. May I ask for your name?”
